Holy shit. The Israeli whistleblower story CNN just broke is insane. I cannot believe what I’m reading

Rare firsthand accounts by Israeli whistleblowers cast light on the horrific conditions in the Sde Teiman torture camp in Naqab Desert. Palestinians are stripped down, blindfolded, forced in diapers, and forbidden from speaking. They are subjected to beatings and mental degradation regularly. So much depravity that has gone unseen. Doctors performing procedures outside of their expertise, amputations due to zip-typing of abductees’ wrists, having large dogs unleashed on them at night. Being fed food through straws. I can’t believe it. I am truly in shock. And this is just one whistleblower accounting of this. Who knows what else is happening beyond our knowledge

My heart is breaking into a million pieces

Worth mentioning that multiple Palestinians have recounted these stories before, as direct victims detailing their experiences. What’s unique about these accounts from CNN Israeli whistle-blower is that they’re from an Israeli, therefore people are more likely to take this seriously.

With so much of the news cycle focused on the crackdowns on American universities, I wanted to post news out of Palestine today:

Israel completes the shutdown of local Al Jazeera offices, making it that much more difficult to get out dissenting information:

Bombings continue in Rafah, where 7-month-old Hani Qishta, already orphaned, was killed himself. (I’ve blurred the image but if you click on source, it’s unblurred.)

This is how I learned that Orthodox Christians paint their Easter eggs red, not the pastel I’m used to. The number of Christians in Gaza is tiny and shrinking fast during this genocide.

The person posting this, Hossam Shabat, is one of the last journalists in north Gaza. He’s 21 years old and has already see more despair than most people will in a lifetime.

My dear uncle has passed away in agony and pain. I hope he will find peace in death, as he did not find it in his last couple of days. https://t.co/O9xHtEPGR9 — حسام شبات (@HossamShabat) May 5, 2024ALT

All universities in Gaza have been destroyed, and thousands of students and hundreds of professors killed.

Today a Palestinian MA student from the destroyed Al Azhar University successfully defended his MA thesis in a tent in Rafah. The student now plans to do a PhD in Education. pic.twitter.com/QEaWkeg6f8 — Christian Henderson (@CjvHenderson) May 5, 2024ALT

Congrats to this family and best wishes to young Haron. He has big shoes to fill.

It has been very very hard for us in the southern Gaza City for the last four days, but this morning had something good for me and for my family. I had been blessed with a new GRANDSON and we named him Haron —the name of one of my nieces who had been killed along with around 50… pic.twitter.com/7Xg4qckST2 — Motasem A Dalloul (@AbujomaaGaza) May 5, 2024ALT

The thing about Katara is that she was angry.

She was angry that the Fire Nation killed her mother.

She was angry that her father left them.

She was angry that she was the only Waterbender left in the south pole.

She was angry that the only person her age was her brother, who constantly disregarded her interests and her role in the tribe.

She was angry that what little waterbending she knew, had to be self-taught and how she struggled with that.

she was angry that a twelve year old instantly picked up what had taken her a long time to learn.

she was also angry that her tribe wanted to kick that twelve year old into the wilderness over a mistake.

she was angry over the earth-benders the fire nation had captured and put into a metal box.

she was angry.

And she knew she was angry.

Because she knew her own anger, she was the first to empathize with Aang when he got angry.

And it was because of it she could tell Aang forcing himself to lock his emotions up was not the answer.

Because she knew her own anger, she kept herself under control in the dessert, when everyone else was a mess.

Her anger empowered her. where anger was a tool of self-destruction for firebenders, for her it was what helped her push forward.

It was her anger that freed Aang.

It was her anger that helped her stand to Pakku.

Her anger was her strenght.

She was angry. And this was neither a mistake, nor a writing flaw.
